If you're new to Twitter or even if you're not new being interactive is key in now only gaining, but retaining Twitter followers. Of course this requires time and depending on how active you are it can take a lot of time. It's important enough though to not ignore. There are some great programs for managing your social media platforms and many things can be automated. One of them is thanking new followers.
If you've never used IFTTT (If this, then that) you are missing out. There is a recipe that is already available that will send out a thank you to your new followers, as they follow you. Think of the time that can free up!

If you've sold on eBay, Etsy, your own webstore, or pretty much any other site for that matter, you've heard about branding and how important it is for your business' well-being and growth.
If you're just starting out this is something you want to give some serious thought to before opening your eBay store or other site. You want the ability to build your business with a brand that is uniquely you. Think about the name of your store, does it portray what you sell? Now I can tell you this from experience this does matter. Take it from one who has a very generic name without any thought initially to anything further than I liked the name. It was my dog's name at the time and I thought it was catchy...and it is that. It's also misspelled a lot, too many S's and it says nothing about what I sell, but gives the impression that you're going to save. So I can live with it. At the time I opened my eBay store I also bought the domain name and a few other domain names that are common misspellings for Sassy's Savings.
You'll want to check before finalizing your name to see if the domain name is available for your chosen name. Is the same name available across the social media platforms? Why? You want people to recognize your branding, your name, your business identity no matter where they see you. This will carry over to print items as well such as business cards and flyers.
Even if you have no intentions of starting a website by the same name, you want to secure the domain name now while it's still available. You can redirect it directly to your eBay store making it easier for shoppers to remember your store name. It is definitely easier to remember www dot your store name dot com than it is to remember eBay stores slash eBay dot com slash your store name. It looks more professional too!
Social media is an integral part of any business online as well as off. You want followers to engage with, engagement builds trust, trust builds customers. You want your followers to recognize your avatar / logo on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, etc. They want the security that when they click on a link that you post on social media, they want to know that it is the same "person", business behind that logo no matter where you send them.
So before you jump in, think first...remember this a successful business you are building...You own!
By the same token you want to think about your store logo. What colors, what do you want it to say? The options are endless and we'll talk about some of these in another post.
How are you using Social Media for your eBay Business?
Are you just starting out on social media or are you a long time user of social media? No matter what the answer like everything else ecommerce related, social media has changed and continues to change on a regular basis. With the fourth quarter fast approaching it's really time to make sure your marketing campaigns are set up and in order. Scheduling your posts can save you countless hours of time that you will surely need as sales increase in preparation for Back to School, Halloween, and the entire Holiday Season. Having a presence on Facebook is a definite necessity in today's social world. You don't want to run all of your family and friends off of your personal profile, so having a Business Page makes the most sense. If you don't have one, they are pretty simple to set up and there are many tutorials on YouTube walking you through the process.
Videos are empowering and are actually becoming the highest clicked posts on Facebook. Sharing videos that you create or that are related to your business will be more follower engagement than a simple picture. It's easy to share posts to your business page and you can even schedule the posts depending on what social management software you use. Personally Hootsuite is my go-to software, but I also use Buffer (free) to schedule listings. Even though it's a business page, I sure don't want to drive followers away with too many posts a day, so instead with these programs I can spread them out as far as I want. I can also upload my own posts that I choose to share and schedule posts for a month or more at time.
This is going to cut down on the time I actually spend on social media during the "busy season", not just busy with my business, but busy with personal commitments, family, and friends.
Hopefully you already have a business presence on Facebook, but if you don't now is the best time ever to get started. If you do have one already, this is a great time to schedule some content ahead of time, engage with your followers, and bring more followers in time for the fourth quarter!

Streamline Your Social Media with Hootesuite
While you are working on your social marketing plan this summer, you might want to consider streamlining your efforts and saving some time, now and in the future. Hootesuite is the most widely used platform for managing social media. You will find that you actually accomplish more in less time. There is both a free and a pro plan. Depending on your needs there is no need to use more than the free plan, that is unless you want to manage more platforms all in one central location. For me, it's worth every penny to be able to manage all of my Twitter accounts, Facebook, Google +, Linked In, and Stumble Upon from one dashboard. You can now monitor your Instagram account, although it isn't possible to post yet, you are able to share your posts on your other platforms. Manage your twitter lists and special searches...the features are plenty with new features all the time. Track your efforts with easy reports. It's all here in one single dashboard. If you've sold on eBay for at least a year, you know that we are in the throes of the summer slump. People are busy enjoying the summer. There's graduation that's just over, there's the Fourth of July, there is time at the beach, the pool, family vacation, and if you live at the beach, probably lots of company. It's normal, it will pass. Now's a great time to get those tasks on your "I'll do it later list" done. Some ideas of how to improve your business while you have a little down time might be:
- Organize your inventory, be sure that everything is listed that should be. Can you find things quickly when they sell? Pinterest or Facebook groups have lots of great tips on getting and staying organized.
- Do you have your social marketing plan in place?
- Do you do a Christmas In July promotion? It's fun and after all Christmas sells year round.
- It's about time to get listing for Back to School promotion. Summer vacation seems to go by quickly and before you know it, the race is on to get all of those school supplies, new clothes, new shoes, new backpacks.
- The Holiday Season 2015! Do you have some plans, have inventory, shipping supplies? It's seriously time to think about and start planning if you haven't already. It will be here before you know it and you want to be ready for the busiest season for retail.
- Are you stocked up on shipping supplies? Now is a great time to plan for the upcoming fourth quarter and stock up on extra shipping supplies. You'll be glad you did when November arrives.
These are just a few of the things that you can be doing to get a head start on the upcoming busy 4th quarter and the busiest shopping time of the year. And even with all the planning, you'll still have some time to take that much needed break.
And while you're busy getting ready for the upcoming selling season, be sure and take time to renew and regenerate your energy and drive. Always remember to reward your top employee who in most cases is You! Spend an extra day at the beach, by the pool, or just relaxing in the mountains!
